FGRS rolls out the Welcome Wagon

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — Over the course of the last two years, that’s exactly what the Welcome Home Committee of the Fairfield Glade Resident Services (FGRS) has done to more than 225 new households here in the Glade. Conceived in 2011 and initiated in early 2012, these hard working volunteers are anxious to make you, our new residents, feel at home and become familiar with the FFG community and what it has to offer. This program also acquaints our new residents with the local business community and area agencies. What a great way to learn all about your new community and the surrounding area.

Sharon Howe, FGRS Director, took on the task of creating and developing this well received program. Finding a group of volunteers was not hard. They were sent out to neighboring areas to enlist the help of local businesses and establishments asking for information, coupons, gifts, or whatever they would like to donate that could fit into the gift bag. The response was amazing, and soon the gift bag was full. These bags, along with a 30-45 minute visit, are presented to all new residents that FGRS can find. Our new Program Coordinator, Judi Vineyard, is looking forward to 2014 and hoping to help welcome all new residents to Fairfield Glade.

Finding all the new residents can be a problem. The main source for finding new residents comes from the Community Club, who, by the way, also contributes to the bag.  But, the committee has found that there are those folks who are missed for one of several reasons. The purchase or construction of a home, which was then rented out prior to moving in, results in the loss of contact information. Also, those who bought a piece of property and didn’t build a home for a few years didn’t make the list. These are just a couple of the reasons some people have not been visited. FGRS would therefore like to ask those who have moved to the Glade within the last six months and haven’t had a visit from one of our volunteers to contact us and arrangements will be made. Please call the offices of FGRS at 456-7272 or stop by and visit our new home at the Fairfield Towne Center Mall on Peavine. The office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.

This popular program, along with the others sponsored by FGRS helps to prove “Together We Can Enhance Our Quality of Life.”
