CMC partners with Komen foundation to offer free mammograms for uninsured women

Cumberland Medical Center's Regional Breast Center will again offer uninsured women in the region the opportunity to get a free mammogram, thanks to a grant from the Upper Cumberland affiliate of Susan G. Komen.

The hospital has provided 365 free mammograms to women of the Upper Cumberland since the program began in 2010.

Susan G. Komen Upper Cumberland has also awarded grants to the Warren County Educational Foundation for the "One Woman. One Life. One Difference." project; the Tennessee Department of Health for the "Best for Tennessee Women" project; Cookeville Regional Medical Center for the "Pink Ribbon of Hope Save-A-Life" project; and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee for the "After Breast Cancer" program.

These grants are funded through fundraising and donations. Upcoming fundraising events include the fifth Komen Upper Cumberland Race for the Cure, set for Sept. 22 in Cookeville, and the second Golf Capital Classic golf tournament, set for Aug. 17 at Lake Tansi Golf Course. Register for the Race for the Cure at komenuppercumberland.org. Information about the Golf Capital Classic is available by calling 335-0501.

CMC Regional Breast Center will offer free mammograms July 23, Sept. 17 and Nov. 12, 2013, and Jan. 14 and March 18, 2014.

To qualify for a free mammogram, patients must be 40 years of age or older and not have had a mammogram within the past two years. They cannot have a previous diagnosis of breast cancer, lumps, breast pain or any other type of breast problem and they cannot have insurance.

You will need an appointment in order to take advantage of the free mammogram program. To schedule an appointment, call the CMC Regional Breast Center at 459-7040.
