CROSSVILLE — Beginner Tai Chi July 1

A beginner Tai Chi Class  for seniors, will be starting on Tuesday, July 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fair Park Senior Center at 1433 Livingston Rd. For more information, please call 484-7416.

Bake Sale June 27

The Council of Catholic Women from St. Francis of Assisi Church is having their annual bake sale at the Village Green Mall in Fairfield Glade from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 27. The bake sale will feature homemade cakes, pies, breads and pastries including sugar free and gluten free baked items. Come early for the best choices. For further info, call 707-1218 or 287-0312.

Photography Club meeting set

The Plateau Photography Club will meet June 26 at 1 p.m. at Fairfield Glade Community Church. They will review the challenge to members to take “non-postcard” shots of the Cumberland County Courthouse and/or the Homesteads Tower Museum. Also, photographs depicting “music,” this month’s theme, will be shared. The club is a “special interest group” of the Plateau PC Users Group, and visitors and prospective members are always welcome. Moses to visit VBS July 13-18

Come and listen to Moses tell how he led God’s people out of Egypt; walk through the Red Sea; gather manna and quail for dinner.  Find out what God has planned for your life! Everyone 3-years-old through 6th grade is invited to attend this event at First Presbyterian Church in Crossville at the corner of Rt. 70 East and Rock Quarry Road, Sunday, July 13 through Friday, June 18; 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each evening. New York State Picnic set Aug. 30

The annual New York State Picnic will be Aug. 30 at the St. George Marina Pavilion in Fairfield Glade from 2 to 6 p.m. This year’s Coney Island theme will feature multi-ethnic foods that they are sure will delight everyone, plus a few additional surprises. Great food, entertainment and prizes will be the agenda for the day.  All NY’ers and guests are welcome to attend. Stay tuned for more details.

  • Simms work on display beginning Aug. 3

    From Aug. 3 to Aug. 29, the Cumberland Art Society (CAS) will exhibit original creations by award-winning artist John Simms, who is internationally recognized as a Master Portrait Painter. The Creating Tomorrow’s Heirlooms exhibit will feature fine art in oil, acrylics, watercolors and charcoal. Please plan to meet Simms from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the CAS Backdoor Gallery, 186 S. Walnut St. in Cookeville.

    Crossville's own Wild Man Billy Ralph, Rafael R. Soriano, known for his signature song "The Dark Stranger," is making his debut appearance at the Palace Theatre Aug. 23.

    Longtime French radio program producers and musicians, Daniel and Francoise Dossmann have lived through many transitions throughout their lives. Thirty years ago, they traveled from France to Ecuador to serve as missionaries with HCJB Global, (now Reach Beyond). After 17 years in Quito, Ecuador, they began a new phase of ministry in the West African country of Cote d’Ivoire. At the end of 2004, a civil war erupted and a mandatory evacuation ensued.

  • Abacus Column: Fairfield Glade golf courses — a product of talent, desire and commitment

    On a recent Friday morning, a friend and I were playing the back nine of Dorchester Golf course. At the tee box on the unique par three 13th Hole, we met a young gentleman named Rob Krumple. Rob is a course maintenance employee reporting to Dorchester Superintendent Mike Wilson. My friend and I often comment about the excellent condition of our courses and since we had opportunity to pass a compliment on to Rob, we did.
