Lions March Student of the Month plans on becoming a dentist

CROSSVILLE — Kaleb Goss, a senior from Cumberland County High School, was selected by Student Counselor Leslie Eldridge to be a Lions Club “Student of the Month.” The Fairfield Glade Lions Club is honoring him for the month of March 2013.

School activities for Goss include four years on the CCHS football team, fishing as a team captain and a winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Trophy. He is an honor student who has taken dual credit and honors courses along with career technical electives in the Health Science curriculum. He is a member of the National Beta Club, FCA, Health Occupations Student Association and a Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Responder.

Goss is also very active with the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Youth Ministry, where he works as a kitchen volunteer and helps on food and tootsie roll fundraising drives. He also helps on fundraising for the school athletic teams and helped raise money for Cystic Fibrosis and the Youth Achievement of Cumberland County. He has also spent time job shadowing with a Cumberland County dentist and surgeon.

Goss plans to complete a pre-professional science program in college and pursue a career in dentistry for his life’s work.

Kaleb and his parents, Kelly and Wade Goss, will be invited to attend a special Fairfield Glade Lions Club dinner to honor all 10 “Students of the Month” in early May. A Lion member will introduce each student and his or her parents will also be recognized. The FFG Lions Club has established a $6,000 scholarship fund for “Students of the Month.” A committee from the club works with the school counselors to determine winners. The lucky students names and amounts will be announced at graduation ceremonies for each school.
