Drug Take Back nets 925 pounds of medications

CROSSVILLE — “The prescription drug abuse problem is currently our biggest challenge,” according to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Casey Cox.

“It is a common denominator to a long list of problems we deal with, so taking 925 pounds of drugs out of the equation this year makes a huge difference for us.”

The County Sheriff’s Drug Take Back program partners with the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complexes at Crossville and Fairfield Glade each year in the spring and fall.

The Complexes provide safe drive-up locations for drop off, and members and personnel participate in organizing for the program.

Contributions are handed out of a car window directly to a licensed law enforcement officer.

A spring and fall collection in 2012 and 2013 bring the total collected to 1,456 pounds of drugs. It is approximately three-quarters of a ton.

Persons who missed the Take Back event may drop off drugs at any time at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, 90 Justice Center Drive, Crossville.
