Welcome 2013 at Jan. 2 Ladies Club luncheon

CROSSVILLE — It’s not even the end of the year and it is already time to make reservations for the Jan. 2, 2013, Fairfield Glade Ladies Club luncheon meeting.

Program Chair, Sherry Botsford, suggests we wear our glitzy sweaters since the new year will be only two days old. She also announced it will be Cumberland Medical Center Day. Our guest speakers will be doctors Mark Fox and Robert Yatto, who will tell us about some of the latest and less invasive medical procedures.

Service Co-Chairs Phyllis Betz and Linda Poland understand that we will be all shopped-out by this time. For that reason, the January service project will be the Cumberland County Hospice. Members of the FFG Hospice Auxiliary will be present to collect cash donations toward the purchase of a blanket warmer for Cumberland House, the residential facility in Crossville. The Cumberland County Hospice is the only non-profit hospice in our area and is dedicated to making those requiring their services as comfortable as possible. So — no shopping for items this month — just bring a few dollars to drop in the basket for this worthwhile project.

Membership Chair Judie Kleinfelt reports we have 504 members and 54 who joined this fall. Membership is open to any female property owner in Fairfield Glade and dues are currently $10 per year. There are many perks with belonging to the largest club on the Plateau, not the least of which is first opportunity to sign up for the trips. A busy committee of nine talented women, and chaired by Rosemary Stuckmann, make the Travel Committee one of the most popular venues for members.  Two multi-day trips are currently accepting reservations and are open to non-members. Check out “From the Colonies to the Coast” (April 20-27) and “Discover Door Country” (July 13-23), as well as several shorter jaunts. Just go to and click on Travel to download a brochure with all the particulars.

In fact, you can find lots of information on the club website, such as menus, programs, service projects, ways and means projects, etc.   Speaking of menus, the Jan. 2 luncheon will feature stuffed Cannelloni, sides, and Chef’s Choice sweet ending, as well as beverages.

President, Viva Bosland, announced that our guest veterans leading the Pledge of Allegiance will be Carol and Norm Adams, who met as cadets at an Air Force Officer’s Training School. The invocation will be given by Jan Rideout.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and you will have ample time to visit the committee tables, have a beverage and catch up with friends. Several tables were reserved for the Fashion Show at the December meeting, so you may want to check with your friends and purchase tickets for this perennially sold-out event. April 3 is the date, and Co-Chairs Linda Chiaramonte and Sue Brown will be on hand to reserve your seat.

Call in date for the January meeting is Dec. 26. Because of the holidays, you might want to email your reservation (being certain to include the names of all those in your group) to If you prefer, you may call 210-0067 between 8 and 10 a.m. on the 26th. Luncheons are $13 (a heart healthy chef salad is available upon advance request.)  Cancellations must be received by Dec. 28 or you will be responsible for the cost of the meal. Remember that the ladies checking you in will appreciate bills no larger than $20 or a check.

Best wishes for the holidays from the officers and members of the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club.

  • Abacus Column: Fairfield Glade golf courses — a product of talent, desire and commitment

On a recent Friday morning, a friend and I were playing the back nine of Dorchester Golf course. At the tee box on the unique par three 13th Hole, we met a young gentleman named Rob Krumple. Rob is a course maintenance employee reporting to Dorchester Superintendent Mike Wilson. My friend and I often comment about the excellent condition of our courses and since we had opportunity to pass a compliment on to Rob, we did.
