Cardwell returns as Good Samaritan Society director of nursing

CROSSVILLE — Good Samaritan Society – FFG is blessed that Belle Cardwell (previously the interim director of nursing) has returned as the new full-time director of nursing (DON). Cardwell originally came to Good Samaritan as the interim DON in January.  In short order she realized that this is where she wants to live and the place she believes God wants her to be.

“I retired three years ago but continued to work as a private, contracted director of nursing," she said, "I like to stay busy. This is what led me to Good Samaritan Society Fairfield Glade, as an Interim DON. I fell in love with the staff and residents and just couldn’t walk away. For the second time in my life, I feel I have found what God placed me on earth to do. The first time was when I gave birth to my children and the second time was discovering GSS Fairfield Glade. I have such a wonderful and supportive staff, residents and their families. I feel extremely blessed to be here and to be part of this wonderful work.”

Cardwell was born in Ohio, but her family was originally from Virginia. She grew up in California, one of seven children. She was married for 17 years and has four children - two girls and two boys. Her nursing career began right after high school, working as a psychiatric technician for the state of California. About half of her career has been taking care of the criminal mentally ill in different state hospitals.

Cardwell continued her education later in life after raising her children. She went on to school and received a degree in nursing and a degree in health care administration. She is not only qualified to be a director of nursing but also a licensed nursing home administrator.
