Many local World War II veterans have held three successful meetings this year, and a fourth luncheon meeting is planned at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Shoney's Restaurant in Crossville.
Organizers are particularly interested in having those veterans who did not attend one of the previous luncheons to gather on this date in order to identify as many Cumberland County World War II veterans as possible. Veterans who attended a previous luncheon are also encouraged to register, and all veterans are requested to make fellow servicemen aware of this meeting. These gatherings provide an excellent opportunity for veterans to spend time with fellow servicemen from one of the country's major eras. All branches of service have been represented, and attendants have enjoyed good fellowship and excellent guest speakers.
Veterans, spouses and other family members are requested to contact hosts Bill and Nancy Oehlecker at 788-6222 or event coordinator Ed Lewis at 335-8879 in order to register for this luncheon. As in the past, space is limited, so please call as soon as possible to insure space is available.
Organizers maintain a list of known World War II veterans and new names have been added at each luncheon. Readers who are acquainted with World War II veterans are requested to make them aware of the November 30 meeting.
As with previous luncheons, numerous door prizes donated by local merchants will be awarded. It is hoped the room will be filled again.
