Cumberland County selected to host Governor's Books from Birth Foundation Summit

CROSSVILLE — Cumberland County’s Imagination Library has been selected to host one of four regional summits for the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation. The same workshop agenda will be offered across all four regions and attendees to the event will be from the various Imagination Library organizations in the state. The primary goals of the summits are to ensure the sustainability of Imagination Library programs across Tennessee by discussing and highlighting practices to increase enrollment, cultivate financial sustainability and build a high performing board. The summits will be held during the months of January and February in Morristown, TN, Spring Hill, TN, Crossville, TN and Jackson, TN. The regional summit in Crossville will be held at the Fairfield Glade Conference Center located at 128 Stonehenge Drive on Feb. 7. The president of Cumberland County’s Imagination Library, Jim Oswald, has been invited to speak at all the summits on the topic of “Building and Sustaining a High Performing Board” and will be joined by the First Lady of Tennessee, Crissy Haslam and the president of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation, Theresa Carl.

The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) was created in 2004 to allow Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to be available to every child in the state of Tennessee. Children from birth to age five are eligible to receive books at no cost to families, regardless of income. With funding support from the state of Tennessee General Assembly, various foundations, individual donors, small business and a host of private corporate partners, the GBBF matches all funds raised by each Imagination Library program in Tennessee – a dynamic public-private partnership unlike any other in the U.S. today. Since October 2004, more than 19,449,000 books have been delivered and close to 218,000 Tennessee children (53.4 percent of our state’s total under five population) currently receive Imagination Library books.
