Crossville Police official to talk on Crimestopper program

CROSSVILLE — Major Terry White, a veteran officer of Crossville Police, will talk about the department’s Crimestoppers program, its successes and its move to social media sites at the Jan. 17 community seminar in the Conference Room of the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex at Fairfield Glade.

The seminar will be at 11 a.m. and is free. It is open to the general public. The Glade Wellness Complex is at 130 Stonehenge Dr. To phone for additional information, call 707-8420.

“Crimestoppers was started in 2006. It was designed as a big brother to the Neighborhood Watch, a program that would have a farther reach with assistance from the internet and cell phones,” Major White said. “For instance Crimestoppers is on Facebook and has more than 2,000 friends. We often get help from this source.”

The Police Department has a rewards program up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

“If someone knows about a specific burglary and will give us names of persons involved and we get an arrest and conviction, we will pay a confidential reward for that information,” Major White said.

“We also run an ad in The Cuffed, a publication that is found in convenience stores, smaller chain stores and gas stations, and it touches all the counties that border us. It has been a tremendous help because many thieves basically do their robbing out of town,” Major White explained. “Fairfield Glade has been somewhat removed from high traffic thieves because of its location and the fact that lots of folks are at home on a regular basis.  But, that has changed in the last two years and it is becoming a target."

A question-answer time will follow the talk. The event is sponsored by Action Heating and Cooling, which will provide refreshments. The seminars are arranged by Rachel Richardson, LPN, the nurse on duty at the Fairfield Glade Wellness Complex.
