Knowing everyone will be exhausted from the holidays, the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club has one more way to help out. You will have an extra week before the next meeting. They didn’t do this all by themselves; the calendar just worked out that way.
The next luncheon meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. That means call in day is Jan. 1. Don’t fret…you may email your reservations to email@example.com any time before or that day before 10 a.m. Confirmation of all emailed reservations will be made on Jan. 1. The dedicated phone (210-0067) will be manned from 8 until 10 a.m. on Jan. 1 if that is more convenient. Just remember to include the names of all those wishing to sit together. If you are new and have decided this is the time to join, make sure the person taking reservations knows you would like to sit with other newcomers. Luncheon is always $13 inclusive and cancellations must be received by Jan. 3 or you will be responsible for the cost of your meal.
Something else has changed, too. The Jan. 8 meeting will be at Legends. This is a one-time change to accommodate scheduled maintenance at the community center. Vice President Sherry Botsford has arranged for Dr. Luisa Manistar and Stacey Carlton to speak to them. The ladies will address "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" aka women’s health issues — addressing healthy diet and cancer screening, as well as other topics.
Ernie Poland, a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Army, will be the honored veteran and will lead them in the Pledge of Allegiance. Invocation will be given by Joan Frederick.
The Avalon Center will be the recipient of members’ generosity in January. The facility maintains residences for victims of domestic violence and there is an acute need for paper products (tissues, toilet paper and feminine hygiene products), cleaning supplies and cellphones. The phones will be repurposed by volunteers to provide additional protection for those who have had to leave their homes for their own safety. Co-chairs of the service committee, Linda Poland and Phyllis Betz, will be in the lobby of Legends to accept your donations. They will also collect hotel toiletries and Boxtops for Education. Remember that the toiletries must be unopened for health reasons. The toiletry items are donated to veteran’s facilities, shelters and other charities with a need.
If you haven’t done so already, it is time to get your table together for the annual fashion show. Sharon Gee and Diane Wilmer, committee chairs, have big plans for this special event Wednesday, April 2. A member of the committee will be front and center selling reserved tickets. Check with your friends, particularly if they are headed south for part of the winter — April will be here before you know it!
Karen Boyer and Judy Johnson, ways and means co-chairs, remind all that a silent auction will be featured at the February meeting. Quality items such as artwork, jewelry and décor are requested for this event. Some groups are preparing theme baskets as a project. You may call either of the ladies for more information.
Remember the date and location changes – Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Legends.
