Metabolic Syndrome, Preventing Pre-Diabetes — Topics of Nov. 5 talks

Dr. Jonathan Burg, an internist and physical rehabilitation specialist, will speak at three seminars Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complexes. He is a specialist in metabolic syndrome – pre-diabetes – and combating it with proper nutrition. The talk is free to members and non members.

The first program will be at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room at the Wellness Complex at Fairfield Glade.

The second and third seminars will be the Conference Room at 1p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at the Wellness Complex at Crossville.

Refreshments will be served at all the events.

The seminars will cover information on “a cutting edge, scientific approach to reversing diabetes as well as preventing pre-diabetes from turning into frank diabetes.”

Dr. Burg says, “Diabetes is the major cause of blindness, limb loss, kidney failure, sexual dysfunction, painful neuropathy and heart disease. Despite what you may have been told or believe, it can be prevented and cured.”

Dr. Burg, president of Cornerstone Wellness.md, says a person’s goal needs to be lifetime management of healthy body composition to insure less likelihood of regaining fat. The benefits are greater good health, less risk of disease, greater vitality, better appearance and improved self esteem.

His program is based on a pre-determined healthy body fat goal. “If the goal is never reached, striving for it means a person is healthier, feels better, reshapes the body and looks more fit,” he maintains.

“It is not all or nothing – even a small change in the right direction can markedly improve health and appearance,” he states.

Dr. Burg’s message is physicians and patients should work more closely to control weight loss and practice of proper nutrition and exercise.
