$1M Shootout a big success

The recent Hole-In-One Shootout, benefiting the Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Department, was a huge success! Nearly 300 contestants entered the qualifying rounds at Heatherhurst Golf Course, with 115 moving into the quarter finals and 22 into the semi finals. The four finalists who qualified for the $1,000,000 shot were Jim Etzel, Tayler Houston, Lowell Landrus, and Dave St. Aubin. Drum roll, please:

#4 Jim Etzel

#3 Dave St. Aubin

#2 Lowell Landrus

#1 Tayler Houston

Tayler, son of Heatherhurst head pro Jeff Houston, landed the ball 26’, 5½” from the hole from a distance of 165 yards on #18 of the Brae. Tayler is 14 and will be a freshman in the fall at CCHS. According to his dad’s “nutshell” description, Tayler is a “good boy who competes.” This is the case in both academia and sports, as he was valedictorian of his 8th grade class at Homestead Elementary, and in 2007 he placed fifth in national competition for shooting basketball hoops. Tayler loves all sports and plays baseball, basketball, and golf. Way to go, Tayler!

Rounding out the top 10 competitors were Bob Keding, James Hamm, Bob Bennett, Rick Elliott, Danny Lee Wyrembelski, and Dan Linskens.

A big thanks to all our participants and a special thank you to our major sponsors, Wyndham Resorts and Fairfield Homes/Glade Realty. Finally, we thank the generous businesses who donated cash or provided the door prizes handed out during the competition: Action Heating & Cooling; Bilbrey Funeral Home; Crossville Ford Lincoln Mercury; Cumberland County Playhouse; Pam Dowler, LMT; Farm Bureau Insurance; Fairfield Glade Golf Club; Frist Center for Visual Arts, Nashville; Golf Capital Learning Center; Miller Heating & Cooling; Nashville Predators; Nashville Symphony; Dawn Robb, Shaklee Distributor; Regions Bank; and Wooden Acorn.

The biggest winner of this competition was our fire department. Proceeds of $1,863 were added to those from our pancake breakfasts to enable the department to purchase a much-needed equipment van. This van will carry necessary equipment (that is not on the fire truck) to the scene when a fire call comes in.
