F. Wm. DuMont

Jan. 5, 1926 — May 28, 2009

F. Wm. "Bill" DuMont, 83, passed away at home on May 28, 2009 in Fairfield Glade. There will be no funeral or formal memorial service.

Mr. DuMont was born in South Bend, IN, on Jan. 5, 1926, the son of Frank and Marie (Shirk) DuMont.

A graduate of South Bend's James Whitcomb Riley High School, Mr. DuMont distinguished himself as a prep athlete before obtaining an athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame as a 17-year-old freshman in 1943. He served as an enlisted quartermaster with the 7th Fleet, spending more than a year in the Philippines during WWII.

Mr. DuMont completed his education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he played three years of varsity basketball, was affiliated with the SAE fraternity, and was graduated in 1949 as president of his senior class.

He enlisted in the military for a second time, becoming a Marine platoon leader, serving in Korea, where he was wounded in action leading his platoon in an attack on a Chinese stronghold. He later declined a regular commission and left the Marine Corps as a decorated captain.

During Mr. DuMont's subsequent 30 years in the business world, he held a variety of executive sales positions with Celanese, SCM and BASF, supplying the automotive industry with chemical coatings. He was an affiliate member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, a member of the Detroit Athletic Club and a 20-year member of the Pine Lake Country Club.

Since 1983 Mr. DuMont had been involved with a number of avocational interests. First, in Pentwater, MI, where he researched genealogy and served as vice president of the Historical Society, was a member of the Planning Commission and president of the Pentwater Tennis Club. Later, in the Fairfield Glade Resort in Tennessee, where he and wife Doris retired in 1991, he continued to enjoy the fellowship of tennis and golf companions.

The DuMonts had four children, three of whom, along with his wife and one grandson, survive him.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your local hospice.

Leona B. English

March 31, 1925 — June 1, 2009

Leona B. English, 84, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 1, 2009. Memorial services were held June 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father John O'Neill officiating.

Mrs. English was born March 31, 1925, in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of Jacob Milton and Clara Belle Devore Rager.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She enjoyed handicrafts, baking and reading. She also loved to travel. She and Charles had traveled throughout most of the U.S. and abroad, including Europe (Ireland, England, France and Italy), Australia, New Zealand and South America as well as through the Panama Canal. After moving to the Glade in July of 1986, she was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Women's Group.

Survivors include her husband, Charles English of Fairfield Glade; sons, Timothy English and Kevin English of Bozeman, MT, and Brian English and wife Jasmen of South Korea; daughters, Anne Rossen and husband Elliot of Highland Park, IL, and Maureen English and husband Scott Chesney of Fairbanks, AK; and grandchildren, Andrew English, Matthew English, Tomas English and twins Chloe Rossen and Stuart Rossen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leona may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Cumberland County.

James E. Wright

Oct. 11, 1938 — May 9, 2009

James Edward Wright, 70, of Hobe Sound, FL, passed away suddenly on May 9, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Crossville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Beasley officiating.

Mr. Wright was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Springfield, OH, the son of Myrtle and Hiram B. Wright.

He attended West End High School in Nashville and graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon in 1957. Mr. Wright graduated in 1965 from George Peabody College for Education in Nashville, with degrees in mathematics and physical education. After many years in education, he was the owner of several restaurant franchises in Florida and Wisconsin. An avid sportsman, Mr. Wright and his family spent summers fishing in Canada and golfing in Tennessee, and winters fishing and golfing in Florida.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, past member of Hobe Sound Golf and Country Club and Fairfield Glade Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Monica Calder Wright of Hobe Sound, FL; daughters, Roberta Susan Wright Lane of Niceville, FL, and Margaret Banks Wright Kelly of Oklahoma City, OK; stepsons, Rafal Szytula and Jonathan H. Calder of Hobe Sound, FL; granddaughter, Melanie Susan Lane of Niceville, FL; grandsons, Andrew Glenn Cruz and David Arnold Kelly Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; and sister, Jacqueline Wright Bonney of San Antonio, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Banks Wright.
