Mary E. Coughenour
March 6, 1928 – May 1, 2008
Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Coughenour, 80, of Butler, PA, passed away May 1, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home of Butler, PA, with John W. Porter of Hill U.P. Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Coughenour was born March 6, 1928, in Morgantown, WV, the daughter of Lorena Newman and William Hormell.
She was a mother and a homemaker and was a member of the Presbyterian faith. She was a member of the Elks Lodge #2751 of Crossville and was a former Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed Bible study, bowling and was a Steeler fan. She graduated from Uniontown High School and married Thomas R. Coughenour, who passed away Feb. 11, 2004.
Survivors include her sons, David Coughenour of Round Rock, TX and Eric Coughenour of Butler, PA; sister, Patricia Brown of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Coughenour; and sister, Rena Bell.
Memorials may be made to the Anne Coughenour Memorial Campership Fund, Girl Scouts Trillium Council, 606 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222-2721.
Thompson-Miller Funeral Home of Butler, PA, is in charge of the arrangements.

Joan G. Pontius
May 13, 1933 — April 25, 2008
Joan G. (Clark) Pontius, 74, passed away April 25, 2008, at home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. May 13 (her 75th birthday) at the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church, with the Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be held at the Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville, OH, at a later date.
Mrs. Pontius was born May 13, 1933, in Ashland, OH, the daughter of John G. and Ruth Hunn Clark.
A career wife, mother and homemaker, she graduated from Marion Harding High School in Ohio in 1951 and attended Manchester College in North Manchester, IN, for two years. It was there that she met her husband of almost 55 years, Keith D. Pontius. They were married June 6, 1953, at the First Church of the Brethren in Marion, OH. They resided in Marion for 32 years, then spent eight years at Ft. Wayne, IN, moving to Fairfield Glade in 1995 where they joined the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Pontius very much enjoyed singing in church choir, was a member of the Fairfield Glade Lions Club, Ladies Club, and worked for a number of years as a volunteer office coordinator for the Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity. She will be well remembered for her thoughtfulness and outreach in the community.
Survivors include her husband, Keith Pontius; children, Jeff (Ivonne) Pontius of Clearwater, FL, Dean (Cher) Pontius of Twinsburg, OH, Brenda (Rich) Stanton of London, OH and Laurie (Tom) Fitzpatrick of Christiana, TN; and 13 grandchildren, ranging in age from 12 weeks to 25 years of age, who will dearly miss her, Brandon, Mikki, Ian and Nolan Pontius, Allyson and Amanda Stanton, Tyler and Emily Fitzpatrick, Kendra, Regan and Maria Pontius and Jimmy and Matt DeMore.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caris Health Care, LP (Hospice), Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity, or the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church.
Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
