Curry, Brown named Lions Club's students of the month

Scott Alan Curry, son of Tambra and Norman Curry of Crossville, has been selected as the Cumberland County High School Student of the Month. Curry is an extremely busy young man who has participated in a wide variety of activities in his high school career. He has been a member of Student Council for three years and held the offices of treasurer and is president this year. He has played the guitar, trumpet, and saxophone in the high school band, jazz band, and in local church groups. Curry formed the local Christian band, Mighty Voice, which has played at several church events.

He has been a member of the BETA Club, Renaissance, Pep Club,Teen Court, Homecoming Committee where he was the announcer and parade coordinator, and is the student representative to the Board of Education. His activities outside of school include the YMCA Creation Project where he serves as a student representative on the board of directors.

He has worked at the movie theater, Art Gernt Insurance Company, and the Cracker Barrel. His experience in school in the music department where he is an accomplished singer has garnered him parts in some Cumberland County Playhouse productions such as "Les Miserables," "Oklahoma," "High School Musical" and "Singin' in the Rain." Curry is a member of the Advanced Choir at CCHS where he has served as bass section leader and is currently vice president. One of his hobbies is filmmaking.

Curry received the Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award and plans to attend Belmont University in Nashville where he will major in audio/video production with a minor in business. He eventually hopes to start his own production business based in Nashville.

Curry is eligible for the $2,000 scholarship that will be awarded at commencement. He will be honored at the May banquet along with other students selected this school year.



Zachary Brown, son of Nichole and Chris Brown of Crossville, has been selected by Stone Memorial High School as the Student of the Month for April. While attending SMHS, Brown has served as a teacher's aide and been a very prominent member of the Environmental Club.

He completed high school in three years. He completed dual pre-calculus in the 10th grade, and competed in the annual envirothon competition for two years. In after school hours Brown took courses in both art and finance which counted as both high school and college credit.

His hobbies include programming, building, and drawing. Brown plans to attend Roane State for one year and then enroll at Tennessee Tech to pursue a degree in engineering. He will be honored along with other students from both local high schools at a banquet sponsored by the Fairfield Glade Lions Club on May 5 at the Druid Hills Country Club. All students selected are eligible to apply for $2,000 in scholarship money which will be presented at commencement.
