Women's Nine Hole League enjoys opening luncheon

By Nelle Norris / Sun contributor

Sixty-three members of the Women's Nine Hole League enjoyed each other's company and an excellent meal at Legends at Druid Hills on April 28. Everyone enjoyed the menu selected by the social co-chairwomen, Marlene Smith and Claire Sisson. The bright red geraniums that decorated the tables were purchased at CCHS through the FG Garden Club's fundraiser. These were given away as door prizes at the conclusion of the luncheon.

Druid Hills pro Rag Jones spoke to the group about the USGA handicap system, equitable stroke control and when to post a score. FGCC Director of Golf Steve Kraft also spoke to the group and introduced a new member of his staff, Dawn Griffin. Sue Moss and Karen Warner's Rally for the Cure table encouraged all members to sign up and participate in the rally on June 9. A special prize will be awarded to the player who is closest to the pin on hole #8.

The cartoon lady golfer who graced the cover of our 2008 yearbook was a hit with everyone. Mary Lou Wiskow, past president and yearbook chairman, compiled the yearbook filled with all sorts of helpful information - play schedule, games, member list, golf rules and golf courtesies. Nancy D. Smith served as our photographer and took individual photos of each member attending the luncheon. These will be compiled into a photo directory for the league, which will remain at our bulletin board at Druid.

Sherry Gibson and her games committee have planned a variety of games for the season. We are looking forward to having Stonehenge added to our rotation.

Officers for the Nine Hole League are Nelle Norris, president; Sherry Gibson, first vice president; Karen Boyer, second vice president; and Pat Bunnell, secretary and treasurer.
