Water restriction lifted for Fairfield Glade

Fairfield Glade is no longer under a water restriction. That announcement was made at the Fairfield Glade Community Club (FGCC) board meeting on Thursday by Everett Bolin of the Crab Orchard Utility District.

"We'll be looking at it month-to-month," said Bolin.

Board president

David Prigg, president of FGCC board of directors, announced the appointment of 2008 election committee members, including:

Ed Lewis, chairman; Dave Johnston, Don Hawker, Jack Olsen, Shirley Coy, Cal Smart, and Don Reeser. There are two director-at-large positions available for board candidates during the 2008 election process.

The board heard a "senior needs" report at their Wednesday work session.

They have also met with Cumberland County road supervisor Wendell Houston. The road maintenance needs of the community have been related to Houston so he can plan what his department can help with.

Prigg also announced another wastewater management firm made a presentation to the board on Wednesday. No decision has been made yet which firm will get the contract.

After a letter was received by the Glade Sun from Gerry Miller regarding the issue of whether FGCC sewer service to commercial establishments outside the boundaries of the Glade would cause it to become a public utility and the FGCC board response, both of which were printed, Dr. Prigg announced the board will hold no further open discussion regarding the subject. "I hope you read the paper," he said.

The new Food City grocery store on Peavine Road is set to open on Memorial Day weekend.

General manager

The ribbon cutting for the new Community and Conference Center at Fairfield Glade will happen at 10 a.m. on May 5, with a celebration reception. The public is invited. The facility is located on Stonehenge Dr., just past the Village Green Mall.

The center will actually open its doors on Wednesday, May 1, with the Hospice Soirée being its very first event.

FGCC General Manager Harvey Hoffman recognized a 30-year employee, Pat Davis. She is his administrative assistant and serves to assist the board of directors.

"We do appreciate her," said Hoffman.

Dr. Prigg added, "She is loved by all and is a tremendous help to all board members."

Controller

Operating positive to budget were community services by $47,904; golf by $109,626; community center by $66,755; recreation by $16,546. Operating negative to budget was food and beverage by $16,272, and corporate and administrative by $3,995. Public works was also negative to budget, but the number has to do with timing issues. All budget matters are open for discussion and clarification with Controller Regina Rector at the administrative office.

Public Safety

Chief Charlie Seiber reported public safety for March:

Contractors are only supposed to be working in the Glade during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Someone noted they have observed contractors remaining longer now that it is daylight longer. Seiber said if he is called regarding these matters, he will ask them to leave.

A new phone scam is going around, according to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The caller claims you have failed to report for jury duty. Then to look further into the matter, the caller asks for your date of birth and social security number. Do not give this information to anyone over the phone.

Someone asked about the sheriff's office cruisers going through the community at 45 mph. Seiber said he knows who the deputy is doing this, and he has spoken to him. Seiber said he will talk to him again.

Community Services

Jeff Warren reports the safety committee will not be handling sign requests related to state/county roads.

Silt removal is finished.

The director has again asked everyone to slow down when they approach a sanitation truck. The workers are busy helping the neighborhood and need drivers to give them a margin of safety by slowing down and moving over.

Water quality in Lake St. George is being tested for E-coli. So far the samples have come back with very low levels, and there is one remaining sample Warren is waiting on for results.

Work is currently going on near Dartmoor and Heatherhurst sewer pump stations. The Windsor Bluff pump station, at the intersection of Westchester and McDuff, is set for work completion by the end of May.

Recreation/Food and Beverage

Tommy Lee, director of operations, reported a new restaurant manager has been hired, Sheila Koelber.

Golf

Golf director Steve Kraft said March was a very rainy month for the golf courses, so they were 1,869 rounds under budget.

The average rounds in Tennessee for February was 659; the national average was 1,186. The Glade's golf course rounds average did much better than Tennessee and national numbers: Druid Hills, 1,064; Heatherhurst, 1,777; and Dartmoor was closed.

Kraft reminded everyone of the upcoming Masonic tournament on May 3.

The first shootout with the pros is set for April 30.

Demo Day on April 16 was a great success. Nine vendors showed up and enjoyed large crowds.

The ladies beginner clinic is set for May 5. Call Druid Hills pro shop to sign up.

Golf carts were allowed on Stonehenge Golf Course for the first time on April 22, to 10 holes. Carts are also being allowed in the parking lot after golf.

Board actions

•David Congdon was appointed as the lakes committee representative for Lake St. George.

•Robert Diller, Don Griffith and Colby Ardis were appointed to the long range planning committee.

•$62,000 was approved for catering equipment purchase for Legends.

•$148,650 was approved for repairs, upgrades and cleanup of Stonehenge Golf Course Pro Shop and Grill.
