Spring flower and garden show to offer lots of information

A handsome, well-designed landscape is a universal goal among most homeowners. It usually takes some effort to create a yard that has all the features you want to make your landscape a joyful destination. Adding a personal touch claims outside space as an extension of your home.

If you have never designed a new landscape or remodeled an old one, the task of accomplishing your dreams may seem daunting. Alan Baker, a VIP Master Gardener in Cumberland County, will have a clinic on landscaping basics on Friday, April 25, at 4 p.m. He has taught the landscaping and water gardening classes for the Master Gardener training class. His landscaping design experience includes his past seven residences and projects for Habitat for Humanity. He has served on the board of the Cumberland County Master Gardeners Association as both secretary and president, and has been the Web master for the association's Web site for many years. Baker will show you the basics of good landscape design in the free clinic.

The 2008 Spring Flower and Garden Show begins at 1:45 p.m. on April 25 with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Vendors, display gardens, and the first clinic of the weekend highlight Friday's agenda. The talented Ann Looney will be providing musical entertainment on Friday afternoon. Register every day of the show to win the beautiful garden arbor door prize.

Among the many vendors there will be displays of unique garden accessories, gifts and plants for you to admire and purchase. They will again have the popular "Tea in the Garden," a People's Choice competition of local clubs who will be presenting their own tablescape designs. If your organization would like to enter, please contact Lynne Baker, 456-6439.

Come and get some great ideas for decorating your table and vote for your favorite. Sunday afternoon the winner of the tablescape competition will be announced as well as the winner of the garden arbor.

The weekend ticket for April 25, 26, and 27 is $3 and children under 12 admitted free. Location, Cumberland County Community Complex. Parking is free.
