Lucas and Friends Christmas show set Dec. 15

CROSSVILLE — The Lucas Christmas Variety Show has become a popular event every Christmas, which is just what we need to get in the spirit in Crossville. Ruth and Wayne Lucas and several others work hard all year to make it such a successful and fun show.

Ruth answered Wayne’s ad for a singer, and a marriage was formed. You could say it was their love of music that brought them together. Ruth is from Memphis and works as an educator for the local Health Deptartment. Wayne Lucas is from Georgia and works at Cumberland Components.  They will be doing “Silver Bells” together for one of their songs.

Terri Utsey is always a big part of making the show come together. She lives in Rockwood and really has a great voice. She has a comical side, also, and loves performing.

Kristen Newman is a full-time medical student and a lead singer with the group Pure Country. One of her songs she will be doing is “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Sandy and Paul Thomas moved here about 15 years ago from Florida. One of Sandy’s songs is “Merry Christmas in Dixie.” Paul has taught himself to play the chromatic harmonic and one of his songs will be “Eternal Lights.”

Judy Fistler used to sing with country star Linda Davis. Judy will be traveling with the Festival Chorale to sing at Carnegie Hall with Director Brian Bacon in the Spring.

Micheal Davis works at Flowers Bakery and has also been in the show before. He will be doing two Elvis Christmas Songs.

Jaydaya Taylor is an 18-year-old spirited singer who has had to undergone a pancreas transplant in the past year.

Anthony Woolbright is the manager of United Grocery Outlet and always surprises everyone when he sings with his professional country sound.

Kelsy Matthews  is 17 and a student at Roane State.

Madison Bowles is 10, the youngest performer. She is sometimes asked to sing at birthday parties. Her mother is Nicola, who works at the Walmart Eye Center.

Then there are the 11-year-old Moore twins from Algood, Alan and his sister, Sara.

For a real treat, everyone always enjoys the Doherty Line Dancers from Fair Park. Just some of them will be in the show, due to space.

The Lucas Christmas Show is at the Palace Theatre this Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. We hope you have already gotten your tickets, because the show looks like it is almost sold out.

Fair Park would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support.

Fair Park Senior Center is at 1433 Livingston Rd. and is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and membership is free! For More information, call 484-741, or check out the website at www.fairparkseniorcenter.org.

Every Wednesday after 1 p.m. from May through October, there is a steady stream of people converging on the kitchen of Heritage Hall on Church St. in Pleasant Hill with baskets and bags. Inside the kitchen there is excited chatter as they discuss the array of vegetables, some varieties never tried before. Farmer Dave Myers and his helpers provide this largesse of vitamins to the members of the CSA.

Garry, a new resident in Crossville, emailed to ask how to gather a soil sample and where to take it to have testing done. Your local University of Tennessee Extension office is the place to go. Those in the Crossville area should call UT Extension Cumberland County at 484-6743. A staff person at the office can explain how to collect soil samples. (Those new in town who may not know where the Extension office is located may also call for driving directions.)

  • AROUND THE TOWN: The Easter egg hunt that never was

The Easter Bunny should be able to deliver his baskets in pretty nice weather this weekend. The Good Friday and Easter holiday weekend should feature much warmer temperatures than we had earlier this week when snow showers fell on Cumberland County. Cumberland County students were released Tuesday for spring break, but their last day of school for the week found snow and ice falling from the sky and temperatures in the 20s. Students will return to class on Monday.
