Kids on the Rise (KOTR) Executive Director Donna King introduced Pam Wells as the new administrative assistant to the board of directors at their October meeting.
Director King commented, "We received 46 excellent replies to our newspaper and Monster.com advertising. Pam Wells' résumé was a standout and our personal interview with her confirmed our choice that Pam would be a devoted addition to our organization.”
Wells and her husband, Will, pastor of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, have lived in the area going on five years. Wells comes to KOTR from a history of nonprofit organizations. Many of the agencies included work with children and youth as well as office experience and grant writing. The Wells are parents to two adult sons who live in Nashville and Murfreesboro.
“I look forward to the challenges of helping to improve the lives of Cumberland County young persons through the programs of KOTR,” Pam stated.
KOTR is committed to helping a child reach his/her full potential covering literacy, learning and life. This includes helping them recapture the elements of the many possibilities of their lives, helping to improve self esteem, encouraging them to stay in school and enhance their positive development.
KOTR provides two main programs, mentoring and storybook reading. Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship between a youth and an adult. The mentor provides consistent support and guidance to the youth who is going through difficult challenges in life. Storybook reading conditions a child’s brain to associate reading with pleasure and builds their vocabulary.
New mentors and storybook readers are always in need. Volunteers are asked to devote some of their personal time to help a child in need. Much more can be learned by calling KOTR and speaking to King or Wells about the program. The office hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The telephone number is 459-2388. Many personal rewards are in store for those who donate a little of their time to benefit the life of a child.
