CROSSVILLE — The membership enjoyed playing bingo at 9:30 a.m. with caller Arlene Simmons. Gifts were donated as prizes by Buckeye Home Health. Arlene informed the members that for the Oct. 25 meeting they will be celebrating Halloween, and all the men and women are invited to participate by wearing their Halloween hats, specially decorated for the event. Hope you all join in the fun.

The business meeting was opened by President Emil Neitzke at 10 a.m. One of the ladies led the group in prayer and then they all said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jan Neitzke, treasurer, announced that the sign-up sheet for the Christmas dinner is out and that this dinner will be catered by Beef and Barrel, featuring ham and turkey. The cost of this special dinner is $5. Be sure to sign up.

The next trip will be Nov. 26 to Cumberland County Playhouse to see Suite Surrender at the 2:30 p.m. show. They will either carpool from the center or just meet at the Playhouse.  Following the show, they will have dinner which is included in the cost of $38. Tentative plans are for Gondola, but may change.

Friday was the harvest dinner, specially prepared by Jan Neitzke, and the cost for this dinner was $7. It was a superb dinner with ham, mashed potatoes, cooked cabbage, several varieties of squash, rutabaga and rolls. It was followed by pumpkin crisp and cooked apples. Great job, Jan.

Jo O’Neil spoke briefly about the tally of senior volunteer hours and showed everyone a new form that will be used to keep this tally. Each person will take one of these tally sheets, place their name at the upper left and then list the people that you have assisted on the sheets, enter C for Calling, V for visiting those who are ill, M for taking folks meals or T for transportation. Be sure to pick up one of these sheets this week so they can begin this new system with November. If you are already registered, you will still use these sheets, and if not, this will register your contributions and hours of service to the community.

Members were reminded that dues of $10 for the year 2014 are due by December. Your dues must be paid in order to be included in their address book. See Mary McClure to pay your dues.

It was announced that election of officers is coming up in December, and Sallye Sykes is heading the election committee. Everyone is encouraged to take on some of the offices so they can share duties rather than just the same few folks taking on these jobs.

Sunshine Lady Nancy Fincher gave a report on recovering and ill members, Ron Mansavage, Jim Visage and Charlie Ferguson. She has been in touch with TC and Annie Lewis in Florida and Dot Conklin, who is ill. They were glad to see Carol Kirkland back and feeling much better today. Please keep their ill members in thoughts and prayers. She also reminded them that Jay Fox will be at Sundays 10:30 a.m. service at First Christian Church on First Ave.

Following the meeting, the family entertainment group Southern Pride, accompanied by Tom Fincher, performed and all the membership enjoyed their music and songs. At noon, the entertainers were escorted to the dining room to take part in the harvest dinner.
