The meeting of the 127 Senior Center Aug. 23 was opened by Emil Neitzke at 10:40 a.m. One of the members gave an opening prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Emil Neitzke.
Last week, they welcomed Gene and Kay Ballew to the membership. Treasurer Jan Neitzke gave her report on the corridor sale, which was very successful as the main fundraiser of the year. Following the sale, all leftover items were donated to Habitat for Humanity, and Lucy Elmore read their thank you letter to the group.
Jan also let everyone know that she now has the itineraries for the second trip to Mackinac Island in September. Everyone is very excited about this trip, and it’s only two weeks away. Jan told them that the hotel they will stay at is on the lake at a conference center. It includes an indoor water park. So she encouraged anyone who wants to swim to be sure to pack your swimsuits. The outdoor temperatures will be in the 60s and nights in the 50s. So bring some warm clothing. The second bus will be leaving Sept. 28.
The cost of $75 for the Oct. 8 trip to Dollywood for a gospel and harvest celebration is due by the first of September. Forty-one people have not paid yet, and there are two seats still available. Call Jan Neitzke at 788-3667 if you are interested in this trip. Non-members are always welcome.
The Nov. 26 trip will be to the Cumberland County Playhouse right here in Crossville to see Suite Surrender at 2:30 p.m. They will carpool from the center or meet at the Playhouse. Dinner after the show will be at Gondola. Cost of this trip is $38.
The Dec. 8 trip will be to see the Rockettes in Nashville and the fee of $95 is due by Oct. 13. This trip is sold out, but you can put your name on the waiting list with Jan, and if a place becomes available, you’ll be contacted.
Jan also announced two trips coming up in 2014. The first is to New Orleans in April 6-12, and the cost is $599 plus insurance. The other is to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, leaving Sept. 20 through Sept. 28, and the cost is $1,225 per person (double occupancy). If you are interested, get your name on the list so you’ll be assured of a spot by calling Jan at 788-3667.
Emil announced that due to the Labor Day holiday their board meeting will be moved up to next week at 8 a.m., the first Friday. He also let the membership know about Gene Visage and Ron Mansavage. He also reminded them that their next game day will be next Tuesday, and there will be no music program Thursday since they will be playing at the fair. All workers at the fair will be treated to a dinner in November and are reminded to ask for tickets. At next Friday’s meeting, they will be having salads and sandwiches and please do not bring any desserts.
Entertainment for this meeting was the family called Southern Pride, and they provided a wonderful program of music. They will also be playing at the fair. Following the entertainment, entertainers were escorted to the dining room and all were treated to a fine spaghetti dinner prepared by the kitchen staff and helpers.
