On July 26, members gathered together at the 127 Senior Center to socialize with coffee, goodies and conversation. They played billiards, dominos and bingo, with Arlene Simmons calling the numbers. The bingo prizes were furnished by Dr. Galloway, ophthalmologist. The members also recalled what a wonderful time they had at their annual picnic Friday, July 19, at Obed River Park.
The general meeting was opened by the President Emil Neitzke at 10:35 a.m., with Jean Wettlauer giving the opening prayer and Bob Jones leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The members are getting things organized for the corridor sale. They will be set up Aug. 1 through Aug. 3. Doors will be opening at 8 a.m. Not only will there be antiques, treasures, crafts and books, but there will also be baked goods for your sweet tooth.
At the corridor sale, there will also be breakfast served, consisting of pancakes with blueberries or strawberries with whipped cream, egg Mcmuffins, biscuits with gravy etc. with coffee and juices. Than for lunch there will be barbecue chicken or pork sandwiches, hot dogs and more, with plenty of desserts and an assortment of soft drinks. Breakfast and lunch will be served all three days of the sale.
Jan Neitzke give her report on the trips. The Jack Daniels Distillery trip on Aug. 13 is sold out. Arrive at the Center at 7 a.m. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. The second trip to Mackinac Island on Sept. 22-28 still has six seats open. The Oct. 8 trip to Dollywood is sold out. The Nov. 26 trip will be to the Cumberland County Playhouse to see the comedy Suite Surrender and dinner at the Gondola restaurant. The last trip for the year will be Dec. 8 to see the Rockettes in Nashville.
Jan reported that the Caribbean cruise for 2014 is cancelled. She has a trip to New Orleans, LA. On April 6-12, it will consists of six breakfasts, four dinners, a tour of Louisiana Plantation Cruise on the Mississippi River, guided tour of New Orleans, gaming at Harrah’s and more. Cost is $599 per person. The insurance costs $45.
Another trip to New Hampshire and Maine is being planned for September 2014, with so many wonderful stops. Cost is $1,225 per person. Insurance costs $119. If you have any inquiries, call Jan at 788-3667 regarding the above trips.
Sunshine Lady Nancy Fincher was absent so Jan gave a report on the sick members and welcomed Charlie and Pat Mount and Mary Hirsch after their illness. So many members said goodbye to Mary Hirsch, who has been a longtime member, since she is moving closer to family in the North. She will be missed by many. Keep all the other members who are sick in your prayers along with military personnel.
The entertainment was provided by a talented trio consisting of Gene Brown, Tom Simmons and Roger Wilhoit. They were enjoyed by all. After the table blessing, a delicious meal was prepared by Rachel Schellinger and her kitchen helpers, with salads, side dishes and desserts brought in by the members.
