State park sets annual Trunk or Treat

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland Mountain State Park will host its third annual trunk or treat Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. There will be owls programs, face painting, a pumpkin carving contest and food from 3 to 5 p.m. at the recreation lodge. Site decorating for handing out candy will be from 3 to 5 p.m., and hay rides to trunk or treat event will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

This is a safe and unique way to trick or treat by going “campsite to campsite” in a family friendly, festive atmosphere. Individuals or groups can sign up to decorate a campsite and provide candy to the little ghosts, goblins and princesses.

This event is free to the public. This year they will be asking all trunk or treat participants to park in the swimming pool parking lot or the upper playground area. From both places, participants will enjoy a hayride to the campground (waivers must be signed before participating in the event). They will run hayrides to and from the campground until 7:30 p.m. You are more than welcome to walk to the campground from where you park, but the campers will not be handing out candy until 5 p.m. So please do not enter the campground before that time.

To save time the day of event, please print your waiver off the Friends Group website at and bring it with you the day of the event.

Food will be served at the pool snack bar. Hot dogs, chips and a drink will be available for a donation of $2.50. All proceeds will go to the Cumberland Mountain Friends Group for future programs.

For those who want to participate in the trunk or treat event by handing out candy to the little ghosts, goblins and princesses, campsites will be set aside; however, you must notify the park to get a site one day prior to the event. Participants handing out candy on the sites are allowed to decorate their vehicles and campsite for the event only, and are responsible for any clean-up that is needed at the end of the event. If you choose to camp on the site during the event, regular camping rates apply, and you must reserve your camping spot ahead of time due to their new reservation system.

In the event of inclimate weather, the trunk or treat will be canceled. Please remember to bring flashlights.

The event is sponsored by the Good Samaritan of Crossville.
