Melling, Sounds of the Country at Hebbertsburg Community Center

CROSSVILLE — Jack Melling and Sounds of the Country will entertain at the Hebbertsburg Community Center on Saturday, May 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This very popular local group is well-known for their unique blend of classic country, bluegrass and blues, and they will be introducing their rendition of some new songs this season along with many of old favorites.

The band has expanded and consists of Melling, vocals and rhythm guitar; Terry King, steel guitar; C.W. Pemberton on drums; with Rob Baker and Luther Myers on lead guitars; Dino King on bass; and both Rob and Dino doing vocals. Plan to join them for an evening of great family music, food and fellowship.

Don't come alone; bring some friends or neighbors. This isn't a "just sit and listen" deal. This is a dance. Whether it's the waltz, two-step, jitterbug, Shrug, line dance or an combination of these, there will be music to entice everyone.

Plus, it's more than just a dance. The Hebbertsburg ladies will provide a delicious home cooked spaghetti dinner, with bread and a soft beverage, for $6 a person. Desserts and additional beverages will be available for $1 each. The ladies will also provide yummy cakes for their cakewalk, where $1 offers a chance to pick your favorite cake to take home or share there.

This is good, wholesome family entertainment, which means children are welcome and free (16 and under). The door donation for adults is $3. The monies collected go for securing the band and general maintenance of the community center. All the workers are cheerful volunteers, and the center gets no outside funding.

The Hebbertsburg Community Center is just more than five miles past the four-way stop heading north on Peavine Rd. in Fairfield Glade. Follow the signs and go left at the fork in the road with the house in the center of it. The community center is the blue pole barn on the slight rise to the left. Call Carolyn at 707-7837 with any questions.

  • Gypsy Rose to visit Fair Park

The Cumberland County Playhouse is currently performing the award-winning Broadway play “Gypsy.” A great American story set during the 1920s fading vaudeville circuit, "Gypsy" portrays the rise of famed burlesque performer and stage mother Gypsy Rose Lee as she journeys across the country with her mother and sister during a time when Vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born. The complex character of Rose could be described as bold and brassy, as she steamrolls everyone in her way to turn her daughters June and Louise into child stars.
