On July 12 members and guests gathered together at the 127 South Senior Center to socialize with coffee, goodies and chit chat. They played billiards, dominos and bingo, with Arlene Simmons calling the numbers. The bingo prizes were furnished by Bob Folger, with State Farm Insurance.
The general meeting was opened by the President Emil Neitzke at 10:35 a.m., with Janice Clingerman giving the opening prayer and Tom Fincher leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Emil passed the kitchen help list for the month of August. Thank you to all the helpers.
Jan Neitzke informed all of two trips for 2014 — Feb. 22 to March 1, 2014, will be a cruise to the Carribean Islands and in September 2014 will be a trip to New Hampshire and Maine. More information will becoming later, or call Jan at 788-3667.
Jan is collecting monies for the Jack Daniels Distillery trip, which will be Aug. 13. Jan also gave the monthly treasurer’s report. Please give her your rewards number so that she can put it in the Kroger’s system so the senior gets credit. This is one of their fundraisers.
The quilt that was donated by the Cumberland County Piecemakers is appraised at $1,826.00. The winner will received the certified appraisal with the beautiful quilt. The chances are one for $l and six for $5.
The European Travelers returned with plenty of interesting experiences, and Jan and Alice Kay will be showing a slide presentation on their trip in the near future. Annie Lewis and Lucy Elmore brought their list for workers to sign up for their corridor sale. Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sprite, root beer (in cans only) and bottled water are needed for the corridor sale.
The sunshine lady, Nancy Fincher, gave her report on all the sick members, which she keeps in touch with weekly, requesting that everyone keep them in their prayers as well as military personnel.
The birthday lady, Mary Brown, announced all the birthdays and anniversaries in the month of July and everyone sang “Happy, Happy” with Gwen Flynn playing the piano.
Do not forget Friday will be the annual picnic at Obed Park at 9 a.m. Bluegrass music will be back on every Thursday at 6 p.m.
The entertainment was provided by Carol Stiles, who sang wonderful songs from different Broadway plays. She also had a sing-a-long with the members, which was fun. After the table blessing, a delicious meal was prepared by the wonderful kitchen helpers with salads, side dishes and desserts brought in by the members.
Correction from the June 28 meeting: Bob and Phyllis Jones furnished the bingo prizes, and the senior center thanks them.
