Curtain call at Fair Park

CROSSVILLE — Seniors are always looking for something to do, and that is what Fair Park is all about. From Tai Chi to line dancing, a game of pool to bingo and more, it is all available at the senior center for the 60-plus population in Cumberland County.

The seniors also enjoy being entertained. Some of the performers of the new Curtain Call Dinner Theater will be visiting the center this Friday at 10 a.m. Dennis Donald, actor, decided seven years ago to be close to his parents in Fairfield Glade and quickly got busy with the Cumberland County Playhouse, and Palace Theater. He is now the co-founder of the new family business, D2 Squared Production Venture, and Dinner Theater.

Joining him will be his friend, Rusty McClanahan, singer for the big band in Fairfield Glade. He has also performed at the Playhouse and Palace and will be joining Donald to sing a few songs.

Curtain Call Dinner Theater has a different show every month. Until Nov. 23, they are doing “Malt Show Music and Memories.’’ In December, it will be an old-fashioned Christmas variety show every week in the style of Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Perry Como.

The Curtain Call Dinner Theater is at the Crossville Outlet Center. Doors open at 5:15 p.m., with seating at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 5:45 p.m. and the show at 6:45 p.m. Call 337-7469 for more information or just be at Fair Park this Friday.

The Readers Theater Drama Club is doing an actor call and is getting ready to do a little acting of their own and would love to have you join them. Terry Burgess will be leading the acting club on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. All seniors are welcome to have fun with this group. Call or come in to get signed up! Bilbrey Funeral Home sponsors the arts at Fair Park.

Check out the senior center's website to learn more at Fair Park is at 1433 Livingston Rd. in Crossville and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with some evening classes. Call 484-7416 for more information.

  • PLATEAU GARDENING: Cool-season lawn grass fertilization and soil tests

Recently, I got an inquiry about the right timing for homeowners who want to fertilize a cool-season lawn which has bare spots that need over-seeding. An email from a new resident in the Crossville area asked how to take a soil sample and where to have it tested. Since problems with the pH or fertility of the soil beneath can result in chronically thin grass with persistent bare places up top, testing the soil then correcting pH and fertility to match plant needs can be an important first step in maintaining your lawn.
