On Aug. 30, members gathered together at the 127 Senior Center to socialize with coffee, goodies and chit chat. They played billiards, dominos and bingo, with Arlene Simmons calling the numbers and the Life Care Center of Crossville providing wonderful prizes. Members thank you for your donations of the prizes.
The general meeting was opened by president Emil Neitzke at 10:30 a.m., with Gene Bellew giving the opening prayer and Tom Fincher leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Emil advised that the board meeting will be Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. instead of the second Friday. He also informed the members that Bob Brown passed on to be with the Lord after suffering a lengthy illness.
Nancy Fincher, the Sunshine Lady, gave her report on all the sick members, requesting that everyone keep them in their prayers as well as all the military personnel.
Jan Neitzke told the members who are going to Mackinac Island on Sept. 8 to be at the center by 7:30 a.m. and to remember that overnight bags are needed for the first and last nights of this trip. Sandra Sarten of Knoxville was notified that she was the lucky winner of the center’s corridor sale quilt. The following is one of the many comments they received from patrons at the sale:
"First let me introduce ourselves. We are Marty and Tom Creel from Dayton, OH, and we have been coming to your garage sale since it began and we visit your kitchen every Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning for breakfast.
"Now that I have established that your crew serves the best food in Crossville, we would like to comment on your entertainment.
"Each year we have enjoyed not only the food but the people who make up your organization. This year we were totally entertained by Gladys and Annie all three days. It was wonderful.
"Now, we are not trying to start a fight between Gladys and Annie, but this year’s award went to Gladys and all her life experiences she shared with us each day, but Annie was a strong second.
"Please keep this event going because we are not sure what we would do on those three days in the morning. God bless all of you and enjoy everything that comes your way.
"See ya next year―Marty and Tom."
The entertainment was unique given by Jan Neitzke. It was a film presentation and narrated by Jan on their trip this past June to British Isles, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Jan also gave a lot of history and customs of all the countries. Would you believe that bread was not included with their meals? Bread was an extra charge. Also gas was more than $6 a gallon. Wow! They all had a wonderful time and members are glad they came back safe.
