PCAC offering 3-day watercolor workshop

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade has invited famed watercolor artists Joe Fettingis to present his three-day watercolor workshop at the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC). The workshop will be Oct. 23, 24 and 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an hour for lunch each day.  With the help of a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, the cost for the workshop has been reduced to $165 for members of the Art Guild or $215 for non-members. For more information or to register for the workshop, visit the PCAC at 451 Lakeview Drive in Fairfield Glade, or call 931-707-7249.

Fettingis’ workshop is designed to help participants understand how colors and values work together, and also how to control moisture. There will be five or six demonstrations each day about how to solve painting problems. Also, there will be lots of time for students to paint. The workshop will be devoted to one day of painting faces, the next day an animal, and the third day a dramatic landscape, so each day will focus on a different subject. Participants usually like small projects design, so each day will include a new painting project with step-by-step instruction from the painting’s start and finish.

Fettingis is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and has been published in American Artist Magazine, Palette Talk, and International Artist. He regularly lectures, demonstrates, and conducts workshops in the United States and Canada.

Fettingis said, “Painting to me is not about color or fancy techniques, it’s who I am. I love to use vibrant colors and very dramatic light in my watercolors. That sets the mood for the subject I am painting.”
