CROSSVILLE — Fair Park Senior Center is partnering with one of its corporate sponsors, Cumberland Medical Center, to reach out for a healthier Cumberland County. The upcoming Community Health Fair will have lots of booths with free information, interesting demonstrations of all kinds and door prizes.

Special guests will be Chef Walters Lambert from WVLT-TV 10 in Knoxville, who will give a demonstration on easy, great tasting healthy meals; Rabin A Hijazi, M.D.; and Vincent Longobardo, DPM, will be discussing diabetes.

CMC will be providing a nice bag lunch. Some of the Fair Park seniors will be demonstrating line dancing and Tai Chi.

If you would like to have your health checked, there will be more than 15 health screenings available for you at a low cost. Cash or credit card will be due at that time. Fasting is required for some tests so plan to get there early and hungry.

The health fair is Thursday, April 11, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cumberland County Community Complex and Fairgrounds. Everyone is invited to come.

There will be some good classes starting this week at the center. The Chess Club with George will be starting up again this Thursday at 1:30 p.m. A self-defense class with instructor Larry Potter will be this Friday at 12:15 p.m. A Parkinson's class with David Manestar will begin Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Take a trip with Tommy Cole to the Smoky Mountains and Cade's Cove Tuesday, April 16. Please sign up for these and other classes as well as future van trips at the front desk at the senior center.

Line dancers of all ages in the county are invited to the dance this Saturday night at the center for a fun night of kicking up those heels and boot scooting. Doors will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $5 at the door. Bring your snacks.

Plan to come to the health fair and then visit Fair Park Senior Center, which is just across the street from the fairgrounds at 1433 Livingston Rd. in Crossville. It is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

You can also visit the center’s website at to keep up-to-date on the latest programs and activities that are being offered, as well as online versions of the center’s monthly newsletter, “Newsline.”
