May is Older Americans Month, and Fair Park is starting it off the celebration with a blast! Everyone has to smile just thinking about that crazy, fun, comedy movie “9-5” which came out in 1980. The outrageous and delightful characters and their crazy situation make for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. That Grammy Award-winning theme song was written and sung by Dolly Parton, who also did thee other songs in that movie.
If you love the 9-5 movie, you know you will enjoy the play. The Cumberland County playhouse always does a great job. You need to treat someone and yourself and plan now to go see this fun show. The play runs May 10-July14. Be warned: That catchy song could get into your head!
The seniors are in for a real treat this Friday morning for their First Friday Party, as they will get to meet some of the cast of “9-5”, at 9:45 a.m. Come join in on the fun, have some birthday cake, and play some Bingo from the Eye Centers of Tennessee. Be sure to sign up for lunch before Friday.
Time really flies, and technology is hard for everyone to keep up with. A lot of older adults do not like feeling left out but they just do not know where to start when it comes to computers. Fair Park will be offering easy basic computer classes to help you get started. The five morning classes will be held in one week for $25. The educational programs at the center are sponored by Hood Funeral Home in Crossville. Please call Tina to sign up at 484-7416 to get in the next class.
Tommy Cole still has a few more seats on the van going to watch the Smokies Baseball game May 7, which is buck night.
Last call for auditions, which will be held this coming Saturday, May 4 , for all the talented folks who want to perform at the Palace Theater, for the third annual Crossville’s Got Talent Show. So call to sign up. There is no entry fee. Tickets are on sale at Fair Park for $10, so get yours before they are sold out!
If you are a senior 55+, don’t just sit there. Plan to come to the Fair Park Senior Center this week! It is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some extra activities at night, and is across the street from the Cumberland County Fair Grounds, at 1433 Livingston Rd. in Crossville. You can also visit the Center’s website at http://www.fairparkseniorcenter.org to keep up-to-date on the latest programs and activities that are being offered, as well as on-line versions of the Center’s monthly newsletter “Newsline.”
