Fair Park Senior Center is working hard to lead today’s Baby Boomers into a more healthy and active world. Currently, it is offering weekly evidence-based programs like two Tai Chi classes, two SilverSneakers Classics classes, a SilverSneakers Stretch class, arthritis exercises, Parkinson’s exercises, along with two-line dance classes, ballroom and tap-dancing classes. The center also opens the door for many seniors in the county and surrounding areas who enjoy sports to compete in the annual Tennessee Senior Olympics, which will be held in September this year.
Fair Park is now extending out to the many seniors in the Glade, offering new and exciting satellite programs. The center is proud to be hosting the nationwide senior exercise program Flex SilverSneakers into the Fairfield Glade community. Their theme is “Fitness, Fun and Friends.” Here is a little more about all the programs offered.
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support.
This class is being held at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr., on Mondays and on Fridays, starting at 12:30 p.m. both days, with instructor Clintina Simms. This class is also held at the Fair Park Senior Center, in town, every Tuesday at 1 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m., with certified instructor Tina Taylor. It is sponsored by Hospice of Cumberland County.
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises. This class in Fairfield Glade follows the other class each Monday and each Friday at 1:45 p.m., with instructor Simms.
SilverSneakers Stretch moves your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. This class is currently being offered at the Fair Park Senior Center, with instructor Taylor. This class should be offered and announced in Fairfield Glade soon.
The Fair Park Senior Center is currently signing up folks who enjoy doing humorous entertaining for the fourth annual Gong Show Feb 21. Tickets are at the center for $10.
Entertainer Tom Fincher will be at the center this Friday morning for the first Friday celebration. Come join the party!
