CROSSVILLE — The 127 Seniors of Cumberland County were elated to be back in their center. Everybody missed last week's get-together due to the inclement weather. But on this past Friday, Jan. 10, everyone enjoyed playing billiards, dominos and bingo. Arlene Simmons called the numbers, and the prizes were provided by Bob Folger of State Farm Insurance.

Emil Neitzke, 2013 president, opened the general meeting at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Jerry Mayo from Pomona Methodist Church saying the opening prayer and Fred Zoeller leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Emil Neitzke encouraged all the members to sign up with Kroger so they can receive more benefits. lf anyone needs help signing up, see Emil for assistance.

The new officers were installed, with the Rev. Jerry Mayo officiating the ceremony. The new officers are Fred Zoeller, president; Lucy Elmore, vice president; Elaine Mumme, secretary; Barbara Neely, assistant secretary; Jan Neitzke, treasurer; and Fred Whittaker and Bob Jones as new board members. After the swearing-in ceremony, the Rev. Jerry Mayo turned the general meeting over to the 2014 president, Fred Zoeller.

Jan Neitzke gave her treasurer's report for the month. She gave the details of the Wisconsin Dells & House on the Rock trip coming June 8-13. It will  include six days and five nights at a cost of $675. Also, there will be a Cheese Factory Tour, Circus World Museum, Wisconsin Ducks Land/Water Tour, Cave of the Mounds and much more. A deposit of $100 is due by Feb. 4. All members and non-members can partake on these trips. For more information call Jan 788-3667.

Jan also read a letter from Annie and T.C. Lewis informing the members on what is happening with their lives and to say "Hello" to everyone. Sunshine Lady Nancy Fincher is sick this week. So the members are asked to keep Nancy in their prayers along with Carol Kirkland, Charlie Ferguson and all who are sick. As Nancy would say, also keep all the military in your prayers, too.

Mary Brown, the birthday lady, announced all the January birthdays. Members sang "Happy Birthday" with Tom Fincher accompanying on the piano. Fred announced the last day to pay dues ($10 each) in order to have your name put in the directory. Fred stated that the center is collecting for the corridor sale all through the year. Do not forget there is bluegrass every Thursday at the center starting at 5 p.m. Leonard Hollender brought information he heard on TV that if your doctor puts "observation or evaluation" on your order form and you need therapy, you will be paying — not Medicare. This is a word of caution for all to consider.

Fred introduced the entertainment — Frank Saxton with Catherine Munkelwitz. Frank plays a "mean" tenor saxophone and also sings. Catherine plays the keyboard. They played well-known medleys from many Broadway Plays, including Hello Dolly, Fiddler on the Roof, Mame and many more. The members were swaying, tapping feet and clapping to all the wonderful music. Thank you to Frank and Catherine and hoping they will come again soon.

After the dinner prayer, the members enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken and dumplings, which was prepared by Anna Cox and her helpers, Gladys and Sallye. God bless and have a wonderful week.
