Oompah Band to play at Fair Park

CROSSVILLE — Seniors love to have fun, and it does not get any more lively and fun than a good polka band!

The Plateau Old-time German Band, a local German oompah band, is made up of members of our own Cumberland County Community Band.

This group of 12 musicians plays a variety of upbeat and foot tapping polkas and waltzes. In addition to this Oktoberfest type of music, the band will also perform several nontraditional tunes which will feature our Tennessee roots and the southern Dixieland style of music.

They will get start about 9:45 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 16.

They say that they will be bringing only one tuba, as to not blow out the windows with both! Sounds like some great entertainment!

This band is also one of the great groups which will be performing at this year’s Pioneer Day & Heritage Festival and Great Outdoor Dog Challenge, on Saturday, Sept 14 at the fairgrounds.

You might want to leave your dancing shoes out, Saturday night dances are coming back to Fair Park, with Tom Fincher and the Southern Pride band!

They are popular at the Palace, and many other places. Tommy who has lived entertainment his whole life, is planning to have special guest every week to join them.

The first Saturday Night Dance will be held the last Saturday night of Aug. 31. So tell all your friends!

If you need a little more slower activity, plan to try chair Yoga. SilverSneakers® Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.

Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.

Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

This class is held every Wednesday afternoon at 1, with instructor Tina Taylor.

If your insurance provider covers this program the cost is free. If not, the cost for the class is only $1.

You may feel and sleep better!
