Attendees are in for a treat at the Thursday, Feb. 7, Friends of the Library (FOL) monthly meeting. Plan to arrive early during the social hour from 9 to 10 a.m. for coffee and delicious starter snacks. Our guest speaker will be Dr. John White, newly appointed director of development for the Cumberland County Playhouse.
The Playhouse, in preparing for its Golden Anniversary Era (2013-2015), has added the multi-talented Dr. White to team with the Playhouse board and staff in a multi-year effort of fundraising and anniversary events. The anniversary proceedings will celebrate the people and events that led to the founding of the Playhouse (August 1963 to July 1965). FOL attendees will see a rare film presented by Dr. White of Paul Crabtree, founder of the Playhouse. You will not want to miss this film. There will also be selected entertainment vignettes from upcoming Playhouse productions performed by featured artists.
Dr. White is a Columbia, TN native with extensive experience in university fundraising having served as vice president of Troy University and various funding roles at Auburn, University of Maryland, and UT Chattanooga. He is an avid outdoorsman, writer and filmmaker. He recently completed a documentary film with Dr. Mike Birdwell of Tennessee Tech exploring the making of Warner Brothers 1941 Academy Award winning film, Sergeant York. You cannot do better than this: free snacks and coffee, the spacious Cumberland Room of one of the best libraries in Tennessee, talented professional entertainment, and a unique local historical film and presentation; enough said.
