The 2013 Celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King on Monday, Jan. 21, will include a nonprofit Volunteer Fair from 5-6 p.m. at the Palace Theatre. It will precede the Christian Justice and Peace MLK program at the Palace Theatre that starts at 6:15 p.m.
Martin Luther King Day is often celebrated as a day-on rather than a day-off. The Celebrating Diversity Council invites you to visit the Volunteer Fair to learn about the opportunities within our community to carry on the work of the Rev. Dr. King.
Thirteen community service organizations will have a display about their organizations and ways volunteers can find meaningful work through them. These organizations include the Adult Reading Council, Avalon, Baptist Association Counseling Ministry, Christian Women Job Corps, Crossville Solidarity Action (CPSA), Cumberland Climate Action Team, Habitat for Humanity, Kids on the Rise, Hospice, Obed Watershed Community Association, Red Cross, Rescue Squad, and SOCM.
Each of the groups will offer a snack to encourage everyone to come to the Martin Luther King Day Volunteer Fair after work.
