Senior center honored for charitable contribution

CROSSVILLE — On Friday, Sept. 27, the 127 Senior Citizens of Cumberland County met for the regular meeting. Bingo began at 9:30 a.m., with Bob Jones calling the numbers and prizes contributed by Dr. M. Stewart Galloway of the Cumberland Eye Center of Fairfield Glade. Last week, Dr. Galloway was credited with donating the gifts in error. The correct contributor of gifts last week was Buckeye Home Health.

President Emil Neitzke called the meeting to order at 10:45 a.m., and the opening prayer was offered by Joy Moyer. Harold Moyer led the Pledge of Allegiance. Emil then welcomed Pat Wiedemann from Habitat for Humanity to speak. She described the work being done by Habitat and thanked the members for their donation of materials following the recent corridor sale. She presented a plaque to Lucy Elmore who had supervised the corridor sale, and it will be placed on their bulletin board. Thank you, Pat!

Emil then told them that the memorial service for Pat Mount was set for Saturday, Sept. 28, at the First United Methodist Church in town at 11 a.m. Emil also reminded them that Jan and the second bus that went to visit Michigan and Mackinac Island would be returning on Friday. He had heard from Jan that the weather had been beautiful for their time in Michigan.

Sunshine lady Nancy Fincher gave her report on members that were out sick and gave an update on Ron Mansavage and Jim Visage. She also reminded members that today was the birthday of Emil Neitzke and Janice Hall.

Following the meeting, entertainment for the day was Tom Fincher, singing and playing his trombone and Cowboy Bob also singing and playing his guitar.

Afterwards, they were escorted to lunch by Carol Kirkland and treated to a fine dinner of chicken and dumplings prepared by Anna Cox and the kitchen staff. Members enjoyed that fine dinner as well.

Just a reminder that anyone is welcome to their meetings and for your first visit you get treated to lunch. They always welcome new members, too, and membership is reasonable, only $10 per year. They hope you’ll come join in the fun and bingo begins at 9:30 a.m. every Friday.
