Members of the Cumberland County Community Chorus are holding weekly rehearsals preparing for their annual Christmas concert. Included in the program is the "White Christmas/Happy Holiday" medley. Undoubtedly the most famous and popular of all Christmas songs is "White Christmas." The music and lyrics were written by Irving Berlin in 1924 and originally featured in the movie Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby. The lyrics struck a chord with members of the armed forces fighting in World War II and their families back home. The song was recorded by Bing Crosby with John Scott Trotter's orchestra and the Ken Darby Singers and was so popular that it was later reprised in the movie called after its name — White Christmas. The movie starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Allen.
The Christmas concert will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in the new sanctuary of Crossville First United Methodist Church. The church is located at the corner of Main Street and Braun Street. There are both regular and handicapped parking spaces in front of the church and in the lots across Braun Street. There is no charge for attending the concert but a freewill offering will be taken. If you have questions regarding the concert, call Jim Bridges at 788-5246 or Emily Byrens at 277-5161.
