The Plateau Chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association announces their hiking schedule for December.
• There is a leaderless hike (typically 5-7 miles) every Wednesday morning. For additional information or to get on an e-mail list for the hikes, contact Bill Harris at (931) 484-9152 or Jim McCullough at sue1290@frontiernet.net. Rain cancels.
• Dec. 6. Black Mountain, Crossville. This is a 4.5 mile section of the Cumberland Trail with some nice overlooks. Hikers will shuttle cars and hike from the top down the mountain. Wear boots, bring water and lunch. For more information, contact Joe Matlock at (865) 354-6101 or matlockjf@usit.net. Meet at Cumberland Mountain State Park office at 8 a.m. CST.
• Dec. 20. Lilly Bridge Hikes, Obed Wild and Scenic River. One or two of several hikes in the Lilly Bridge area will be selected based on weather conditions and hiker preference. Expect some difficult terrain and rock hopping with about 6 miles of hiking. The scenery includes high cliffs, rock formations, waterfalls, and overlooks. As usual, wear boots, bring water and lunch.
