A Crossville native was one of 15 finalists chosen from tens of thousands of entries that competed in the 2007 Southern Living Cook-Off held in early October.
Ann Taylor, originally from Crossville but currently living in Birmingham, AL, entered a dessert recipe of ingredients she chose based on her own tastes. The recipe is Coconut Cream Bread Pudding and differs from traditional bread puddings in various ways.
She created a caramelized sugar sauce of milk and coconut milk instead of a whisky sauce and also combined coconut, pecans and butter to make a sweet-crunchy topping.
The winner of the dessert category, Sweet Endings, is out of Kansas, and won the grand prize of $100,000. As a finalist, Taylor received $1,000 and an autographed copy of The Lee Brothers' Southern Cookbook. She also received a $500 prize from Domino Sugar for using their sugar in her recipe.
Her recipe, and those of the other cook-off finalists, will be published in the January issue of Southern Living.
