Fair Park getting into the holiday by offering trips

By Donna Rule / Chronicle contributor

As the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons approach, thoughts are turning to decorating homes and buying gifts for loved ones. And even though gas prices have been stable over the past few months, it’s still a great idea as well as fun to travel in a group to go shopping and have lunch. Fair Park is getting into the swing of the holiday spirit by offering several shopping and entertainment trips during November and December.

Like to sightsee and experience nature at its finest? Then you may want to join the group going to Fall Creek Falls on Dec. 8. A trip is also being planned to the Dale Hollow-Livingston-Algood area on Dec. 10 with a stop at the floating restaurant for lunch as well as Russell Stovers candy store (just in time for Christmas!). Knoxville is also a great place to go sightseeing, so be sure to sign up for the upcoming trip for Nov. 27.

If you like to shop for bargains, the “Trash to Treasures” trip to Harriman/Rockwood on Dec. 11 may be for you. This trip will stop at various locations in the area so that you can search for special treasures or even gifts for the upcoming Christmas Holiday. And just before Christmas, plan to see “Dickens — A Christmas Carol” at the Palace Theatre.

Seats are still available for these trips, and many more exciting destinations are in the works for the upcoming winter months. Call the center at 484-7416 for more information on prices and departure times.

To keep informed about Fair Park’s activities and to learn about its corporate partnerships, you can visit the center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also visit the center’s Web site at http://www.fairparkseniorcenter.org to keep up-to-date on the latest programs and activities that are being offered as well as online versions of the center’s monthly newsletter “Newsline.” Take advantage of the resources that Fair Park offers — get involved, and become part of the fun!
