Playhouse holding auditions Nov. 23

Cumberland County Playhouse will hold region-wide auditions for the theater’s mainstage 2009 production of the Broadway musical Seussical on Sunday, Nov. 23. Experienced and intermediate kids, teens and adult actor/singers, ages 9 and up, will be seen by appointment for prepared auditions. Beginning or less experienced kids, teens and adults (age 9-up) will be seen in group auditions, for which no preparation is needed. Auditions will be in the theater’s main rehearsal hall at 221 Tennessee Avenue in Crossville, entering on the lower left side of the building. The schedule is as follows:
Appointments for prepared youth, teen and adult auditions are scheduled with Meka Doxtator at 484-4324, ext. 243, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Messages left will be returned. Those planning to attend the group auditions (no prepared material) should also call Meka to register, provide contact information, and confirm the time of the group auditions.
At 1 p.m. CST Nov. 23, experienced and intermediate volunteer kids and teens age 9 and up will be seen in prepared auditions for major and supporting roles, by appointment only, until about 3:25, and then again after 4:30 p.m. All should prepare a 30-second monologue or reading and 16 bars of a song. Bring sheet music in the proper key, or a recorded (instrumental only) accompaniment on cassette (cued up to the proper beginning spot) or CD. Songs from the show are fine, as are well known tunes like “Happy Birthday” and “Amazing Grace.”
At 3:30 p.m. CST Nov. 23, less experienced volunteer kids, teens and adults (also age 9-up) will be seen in a group audition at 3:30 p.m., and will be finished by 4:30 p.m. No prepared material is needed for this audition. Those with prepared material should schedule an appointment.
At 6:30 p.m. CST Nov. 23, adult volunteers interested in Seussical and professional or semi-professional actors interested in roles in any of the Playhouse’s 2009 season productions will be seen by appointment beginning at 6:30 p.m. All appointments are scheduled with Meka at 484-4324.
Director/Choreographer Michele Colvin is interested in athletic kids and teens who enjoy sports and performing, actor-singers, dancers, gymnasts, tumblers, puppeteers, Who’s, Grinches, and Seussical citizens of all descriptions. Call Meka at 484-4324 for information and appointments.
