MAYLAND SENIORS: Center to celebrate Thanksgiving

By Charlotte Mullikin / Chronicle contributor

The Mayland Seniors' last meeting was Friday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. Bingo was sponsored by Woodmen of the World representative Todd Martin, who furnished all the lovely gifts. Members welcome Todd to Mayland Senior Center.

The meeting was called to order by president Jessie Hyder. Members said the pledge to the flag, led by Roy Welch, and all sang "God Bless America," led by Roy Welch.

The buffet was wonderful, as usual. The ladies always do a great job.

The next meeting will be held Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. Notice the change in time for the meeting to start? From now on, the meeting will start at 11 a.m. because of the change in time (Daylight Savings Time) on Nov. 1.

This meeting will be the center's Thanksgiving dinner. The center will be furnishing the turkey and ham, and the members will furnish the rest of the dinner including the desserts. Dressing will also be furnished by the center. Barbara Smith will be calling all the members about the Thanksgiving dinner. Bring a friend to enjoy the day. Don't miss the Thanksgiving meeting and dinner. You will enjoy it.

Bingo will be at 11 a.m., with Barbara Neely from WyndRidge sponsoring the game and the lovely gifts. Members will be having very special entertainment for Thanksgiving program. They will be very happy to have Ray and Monica Henson there to present the program. Monica is a fantastic singer, and members are looking forward to seeing her.

Remember the meeting is Nov. 13, at 11 a.m.

The building project is coming along just great. Roy Welch is really doing a great job, with others working with him. The center appreciates his help.

Remember there is only one meeting in November and December because of the holidays.

The thrift store is filled with wonderful fall and winter merchandise for everyone. Everything is priced to sell for the holidays. Some Christmas merchandise is on display, but there is more to be put out. Come in and look around.

Remember to turn in your October volunteer sheets at the next meeting if you haven't yet. Oh, and don't forget the drawing for $25 worth of merchandise. For every $5 purchase, you get a ticket for the drawing the first Wednesday of each month.

Dates to remember

Mayland Seniors normally meet the second and fourth Friday of each month. There will be only one meeting in November (on the 13th) and December (on the 11th) at 11 a.m.

Homemakers meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

The Mayland Community Organization meets the third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

A country music group meets every Monday night from 4 to 8 p.m. They have a buffet at 6 p.m., and you can come and eat with them, but please bring a dish to share. Everyone is welcome.

The thrift store's hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the first and third week of the month and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday during the second and fourth week.

For more information on the above dates and times, call 277-3200 or 277-3181.
