Wharton sponsoring Silent Auction Sept. 24-26 in Pleasant Hill

The May Cravath Wharton Association is sponsoring the annual popular Silent Auction Sept. 24-26 in Pleasant Hill. Shoppers have a limited number of cash and carry items that they may purchase right away. Then they may leisurely check out the bid items writing a price at or above the set minimum bid. These bids are sealed away until after the final day when the lucky highest bidder will be notified. 
The department featuring dishes is always a popular one. This year seven boxes containing a collection of yellow Depression dishes has been donated. There is an exceptional Nipon vase, an Eperane flower and fruit stand, a ten-piece setting of Wedgewood china in the Beacon’s Field pattern, one-of-a-kind decorated and antique plates, and a set of dishes from the Czech Republic; as well as the usual assortment of glasses, cups, vases, and dishes.
The linens section has several towels, napkins, tablecloths, quilts, blankets, sleeping bags and of note a handcrafted old wedding ring quilt. Furniture pieces of interest are a muffin stand, an unusual gecko decorated CD stand, a drop leaf table with chairs, kitchen and dining room tables, chairs, baby cribs, beds, sofas, easy chairs, china cabinets, buffets, end tables, and others. A very attractive Indian mirrored vest is available in the International section. Jewelry, appliances, paintings, and other objects d’art are being checked, cleaned, attractively placed and made ready for bids.   
The sale will be held at the Blue Barn, located next to Wharton Nursing Home on Lake Road in Pleasant Hill. Hours for the sale will be 4-8 p.m. on Sept. 24; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 25; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Successful bidders will then be notified by phone. A plant sale will be held across from the barn on sale days.
Proceeds from the sale benefit local outreach programs in the greater Pleasant Hill/White County area, scholarships for higher education students and aid for the residents of Wharton Nursing Home and Fletcher House.
