You can pretend to be Picasso

Have you ever picked up a paintbrush? Maybe your most recent painting experience was that brand new color for the kitchen or restoring the stain on your deck or front porch. Did you paint in elementary school? Most of us did! Remember how much fun that was? All that color and all those lines and shapes!

Now is your chance to revisit that simple joy of color and line. The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade is sponsoring Pretend Picasso, a two-hour session designed to help you discover that everyone has the ability to paint…a picture that is, never mind the kitchen walls. The workshop will be held July 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Plateau Creative Arts Center, 451 Lakeview Dr., Fairfield Glade. Members of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will be leaders for the event.

“Painting is user-friendly,” says Nancy Hamm, workshop organizer. “This two-hour brief experience of what it means to paint is for you to simply pick up a brush and have a good time without “rules” and without competition.”

The workshop includes an introduction to Picasso, perhaps the most famous painter of the 20th century. Learn about the man and his art and then create your own painting using your ideas and free-form expression with materials provided by the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade. Again, there are no rules. Your individual work of art will be mounted into a genuine poster-board frame and, if you desire, be displayed on the wall of the studio at the Plateau Creative Arts Center. You can even have your photo taken along side of your artwork and carry both photo and painting with you to show to your friends and family.

Join Nancy Hamm and other participants to “have fun and try something you haven’t done, or re-try painting with no rules.” Cost for the workshop is $10 per person ($5 for Art Guild members) and reservations may be made by calling the Plateau Creative Arts Center at 707-7249. Paper, genuine poster-board frame, use of paint (tempura) and brushes will be supplied by the Art Guild.
