Red Cross is open July 4

Summer vacations and school holidays could mean a dangerous combination of low blood donation numbers and increased activity in trauma centers, especially this Fourth of July holiday. A low number of blood donors means a low number of units of blood on the shelves – this could leave cancer patients, accident victims, children with blood disorders and many others in dire need of blood that simply is not available.

Escape the heat for one hour this Fourth of July and visit the Crossville Donor Center, at 14 E. First Street, to donate. The center will be open on the Fourth from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Help show your support by donating blood. For more information on blood donation, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

If you are at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. In Tennessee, you may be 16 years of age to donate with parental consent. All donors need to present positive identification.
