Diabetes group to meet May 19

The Diabetes Support Group members and guests will learn to “Know Your Healthy Steps” for good nutrition and personal care on Monday, May 19, at the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex in Crossville. The program is at 1 p.m. in the Conference Room.
Sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Diabetes Care Division, it will be presented by registered dietitian Linda Hassler, a certified diabetes educator.
Persons with diabetes and their families are invited to attend. There is no charge. For more information, call the Diabetes Program at 459-7164.
According to Bayer HealthCare, diabetes is a growing health concern in the United States. Approximately 21 million American have the condition, which if poorly controlled can lead to heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure or amputation.
The health organization adds that gaining control over diabetes means it is necessary to eat properly because what a person eats affects blood sugar.
Hassler will discuss good nutrition and how to develop healthy habits for eating and exercise.
