The Family and Community Education clubs in Cumberland County celebrated their annual 100% luncheon. Smith County Extension Agent Janie Monday was the guest speaker and spoke on “Life Lessons” she learned from her 101-year-old aunt. Lunch was prepared by the Tansi FCE club and enjoyed by everyone. After lunch, 100% members were recognized and presented gifts upon their accomplishments. Members recognized included Sallye Sykes, Shirley Pearson, Helen Davis, Kay Ballew, Lynn Roberts, Charlene Stone, Sue Cox, Nan Adcock, Ruth Manis, Wanda Atkinson, Sandra Wilson, Betty Atkinson, Loie Buck, Mildred Hicks, Wilma Marlow, Linda Brown, Phyllis Smith, Lillie Beyer, Sue Freeland, Gladys Weismuller, Sybil Taylor and Carrie Vandever.
Some of the requirements to be a 100% member include attending a certain number of FCE meetings throughout the year; attending state, regional, or countywide meeting; bringing a guest to a monthly meeting; visiting another FCE club within the county; entering items in the fair and work in some capacity; doing volunteer work with in the community.
These clubs have been around for a number of years and members have volunteered thousands of hours to our community. Cumberland County has one of the largest delegations of members across the state with twelve clubs and over 300 members. These clubs are open to anyone. You may recognize the club by some of their earlier names: Home Demonstration Clubs and Extension Homemakers. If you would like to know more about these clubs please contact our office at 484-6743.
