Furniture auction, "Taste of Crossville" event also features grand door prize

By Judy Pearson / Chronicle contributor

Attend the “Mountain Chair-ubs” Painted Furniture Auction and “Taste of Crossville” on Friday, May 16, at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex in Crossville and your ticket will give you a chance to win the door prize of a lifetime.

A generous donor has offered this event a red week vacation (that means you can go any time in 2008) with RCI International, the world’s largest timeshare vacation network, as a door prize for this event. Go anywhere in the world for one week on us! You just have to get there, and you stay one week for free! All exchange fees will be paid by the Crossville Arts Council. Check out the possibilities at RCI.com. It could be a romantic getaway for two, or a vacation for the whole family. With over 4000 destinations to choose from, you can have the vacation of a lifetime, free!

Tickets are just $15 for this event, and all ticket holders present at the end of the evening will be eligible for this door prize. So when the final gavel falls, be sure you’re there with ticket in hand. You won’t want to miss this opportunity for a week’s free vacation.

While you’re there you will enjoy tasty tidbits from many of the area’s restaurants and caterers. Here are just a few examples to whet your appetite: tiny Shepherd’s pies, a popular dish in English pubs, succulent barbecue, exquisite cakes, strawberries dipped in chocolate, cool drinks to quench your thirst. A bite here and a bite there, and you’ll be bursting at the seams in no time.

Once you’ve tasted all the goodies offered, browse among the painted chairs, tables and more in the silent auction. Place bids on your favorites and check often to be sure no one has outbid you. Among the things you will find there are a 7 foot church pew (includes delivery to your home in Cumberland County), a freestanding jewelry chest covered in exquisite roses, chairs for the garden and front porch, a shelf unit with a roof, a chair covered with sunflowers that comes with its own sunflower-painted gourd, another one covered in hydrangeas while a watermelon looks tempting on another, a child’s desk and chair, a princess chair, a painted bowling pin, and a table painted by Alex Hakes, one of the young artists who helped with the Downtown Mural Project. Once the silent auction is over, the live auction begins for gorgeous pieces of art disguised as furniture. There is always room for one more piece of art in your home, and you won’t even have to put a nail in the wall to display it.

Proceeds from the “Mountain Chair-ubs” Painted Furniture Auction and “Taste of Crossville” will benefit Arts in Education projects for students in the Cumberland county school system and bring music to our Depot Days Main Street Festival in June.

Tickets at $15 are now available at the Artist Corner and Express Lunch, both on Main Street, or by calling Tracy Cass at 267-2264, Judy Pearson at 484-8234 or Frances Carson at 261-7738. Kids under 10 are free, and they will have a special kid’s room with kid-friendly munchies and an art project to keep them occupied while you place bids on your favorite items.

The “Mountain Chair-ubs” Painted Furniture Auction and “Taste of Crossville” are brought to you by the Crossville Arts Council with the help of our sponsors Dr. Stewart Galloway, The Art and Frame Shop, Cumberland County Bank, Gwin Realty, Upland Design Group, and their many artists and donors throughout the community. For more information call Judy Pearson at 484-8234.
